This qualification provides an introduction to the construction industry, its culture, occupations, job roles and workplace expectations. The units of competency cover essential work health and safety requirements, the industrial and work organisation structure, communication skills, work planning, and basic use of tools and materials.
This qualification provides a pathway to the primary trades in the construction industry with the exception of plumbing. Trade outcomes are predominantly achieved through an Australian Apprenticeship and this Certificate II allows for inclusion of skills suited for entry to off-site occupations, such as joinery and shop fitting as well as carpentry, bricklaying and other occupations in general construction.
This qualification is for students at school who wish to eventually become a bricklayer. There is 220 hours of work placement is also required working with a Bricklayer on a real work site. This course must be conducted across 2 years. The teacher is required to visit the workplace and assess the students on the job as well as at school. VCS only offers one Trade Pathway – Bricklaying/Blocklaying.
